(2) Ruxley the rolling ball
Ok where to start, a couple of weeks ago i got hold of James Guider who not only has allot to do with the lakes at Ruxley but also is the owner of Cray Valley Baits to sort out getting 2 winter tickets for the big lake, he sent me the forms and me and my pal Micky got them filled out and took them down to the Original Cobblers in Cotmandene Crescent.
The problem we had was that we wanted to get on the lake 3 days later and we would have to wait 5 days or more for them to send out the memberships, i rang James again and explained and he said its not a problem at all, he had a key there and we could fish using our receipts so we shot down there and picked the key up, it was just after 6pm and the sun was droping fast, we both wanted to go and take a look around the lakes that afternoon so we rushed off and got to the 1st set of gates, i must say it was not the easiest of tasks trying to work out how to get in as we had not used the gates before but we got thru the 1st and the next two where easy after that, we was happy that its like fort knocks as i would be taking the bike down every now and then and Mickys car wouldn't be to easy to replace ether so the fact that no one could get out without running the crystal maze was a real good thing in our case, after entering the 1st set of gate you go past the 1st lake on your left and it was plain to see that the lakes where run by a fresh water spring as the water was gin clear and you can see 3-5 feet down, the weed on top and on the bottom was worrying as nether me or Mickys had ever fished weedy lakes, all the lakes we have ever chosen to fish have been nice and clear so this would be an eye opener for us both but we where both ready for the challenge, as we keeped going on the gravel road we turned a couple of corners and under the A20 bypass to the final set of gates, spikes and barbed wire running along the top, looked like something out of an old war film or part of the fences on Alcatraz inland but again i dident mind seeing that, after the gates have been passed its in to the car park, we parked up and i got on the phone to a mate who was fishing the car park swim at the time, he pointed out some swims and gave some tips and after about 30 mints chatting we took a walk to the rats swim and again chatted to secret squirrel and met bob the cat, by now it was getting a little dark and we relay couldn't see much but we both where itching to get the rods out, we then left and headed home with all these tactics going thru our brains, it was killing us that we would have to wait.
